30th August 2022. Home

Bubble baths, a hot water bottle, a nap & a tonne of paracetamols kinda day.

I knew it was too good to be true, I thought I had got lucky and escaped any side effects but the last couple of weeks built up and really hit me hard.

After 11 days being injected full of hormones, Friday was egg retrieval day. The first experience of being sedated and given another lovely cannula with a concoction of painkillers it felt like having wheyyy too many cocktails and a whoozy hangover.

The procedure itself was over pretty quickly and the nurses were amazing, successfully collecting 12 eggs. It’s now a waiting game to see how many successfully mature as embryos for the freezer. 🤞

It’s still feels like a surreal experience with the mind blowing science behind it all!

While I feel grateful to have been given this opportunity it’s bittersweet. As within a matter of hours the next part of the plan was put into place.

I was injected into my stomach with the biggest arse needle, that will now shut my ovaries down to try and protect them during my chemo treatment. Plunging me into a medical menopause at the age of 30.

This is a tough one to get my head around.

Trying to come to terms with making hot flushes my new best mate, along with the rest of it.
